Copperline Excavating Ltd. is seeking an individual who can demonstrate a high level of proficiency in placing and preparing both fiber optic and copper cabling for outside plant facilities. This unique opportunity will also allow you to develop as a junior technicians and potentially become an apprentice. This position will put you in the face of the Customer and as such a proficient level to carry on duties with minimal supervision and give technical assistance is required.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Telecommunication Experience an asset but not required
  • Outside Utility Construction background in other areas an asset but not required
  • Valid Driver’s License, Class 5 or better with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Applicable training including but not limited to: First Aid & AED/CPR, CSTS-09, WHMIS 2015, TDG, Etc.
  • Experience with Bucket Truck, Skid Steer, forklift and equipment related to placing outside plant
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently with minimal supervision assuming accountability for achieving results.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the build activities of underground, direct buried and aerial plant under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Preparing and placing both Fiber and Copper cables under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Learn to read and understand telecommunication construction prints and work tickets.
  • Able to work at heights greater than 3 meters.
  • Able to work in confined spaces which may include tight uncomfortable positions that may have kneeling, sitting, and crouching.
  • Able to work in various climatic conditions and work effectively.
  • Operates laptop computer, or similar devices, to access required systems and equipment. Must have knowledge of Microsoft programs and Adobe Acrobat for the purpose of reporting.
  • Assist with incidental and preventative maintenance with associated equipment, and completes necessary logs or reports.
  • Moves and/or lifts material weighing up to a maximum of 50 pounds.
  • Perform emergency response as necessary. May be required to be available for after-hours projects, On-Call duty, and overtime.
  • Follows designated safety regulations and abides by company standards.
  • Must not be color blind.
  • Must have good hand/eye coordination and be able to work with hand and power tools.
  • Pass a security check.
  • May be required to be away from home location for extended periods of time.
  • Superior organizational skills to maintain accurate records on daily activities and results.
  • Strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability and willingness to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively within Copperline as well as external clients and vendors.
  • Read and Understand all Engineering Blueprints, Specification Drawings and work orders.
