Copperline Excavating Ltd. is seeking an individual who can demonstrate a high level of proficiency in preparing and splicing fiber optic and copper cabling both inside and outside plant facilities. In conjunction with the splicing there will be a requirement to include testing with approved industry standards. This unique opportunity will also allow you to develop junior technicians to a proficient level to carry on duties with minimal supervision and give technical assistance when requested.

  • The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • Journeyman Telecommunication certification or demonstrated equivalent training and experience
  • Demonstrated background in telecommunications with both inside and outside construction plant facilities, including underground, buried methodologies
  • Minimum of 10 years in Telecommunications.
  • Valid Driver’s License, Class 5 or better with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Applicable training including but not limited to: First Aid & AED/CPR, CSTS-09, WHMIS 2015, TDG, Etc.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently with minimal supervision assuming accountability for achieving results.


  • Proven experience working with and splicing fiber optics
  • Proven experience working with and splicing copper plant
  • Proven experience in entering and sealing cabling closures to include testing
  • Experience in OTDR testing, cleaning and installing fiber optic cabling.
  • Experience in copper cable fault locating and repair
  • Ability to read and understand telecommunication construction prints and work tickets
  • Installation, connecting and testing of CAT5/CAT6, LMR and other coaxial cable for both indoor and outdoor applications.
  • Able to work aloft (greater than 2m) with climbing/ ladder and in a bucket
  • Able to work in confined spaces which may include tight uncomfortable positions that may have kneeling, sitting, and crouching
  • Able to work in various climatic conditions and work effectively
  • Operates laptop computer, or similar devices, to access required systems and equipment. Must have knowledge of Microsoft programs and Adobe Acrobat for the purpose of reporting
  • Performs required incidental and preventative maintenance with associated equipment, and completes necessary logs or reports.
  • Coordinates work locations with other groups and organizations, and works with other employees and/or customers
  • Moves and/or lifts material weighing up to a maximum of 50 pounds.
  • Provides instruction, assistance, and guidance to other technicians, and work groups as required.
  • Perform emergency response as necessary. May be required to be available for after-hours projects, On-Call duty, and overtime.
  • Follows designated safety regulations and abides by company standards
  • Must not be color blind
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record check.
  • Must have good hand/eye coordination and be able to work with hand and power tools.
  • May require a security check.
  • May be required to be away from home location for extended periods of time.
  • Ability and willingness to demonstrate a consultative approach with clients.
  • Superior organizational skills to maintain accurate records on daily activities and results.
  • Strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability and willingness to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively within Copperline as well as external clients and vendors.
  • Read and Understand all Engineering Blueprints, Specification Drawings and work orders.
